Softball Recap: Wes-Del Comes Up Short

Wes-Del fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Centerville on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 8-7. The Warriors were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bulldogs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2025.

Rylei McCord and Keylie Byrd stepped up to the plate in a big way. McCord went 3-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one double, while Byrd got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Marley Bertram was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two runs and one double.

This is the second loss in a row for Wes-Del and nudges their season record down to 7-5. As for Centerville, they pushed their record up to 7-6 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Wes-Del will challenge Southern Wells at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Centerville, they will take on Knightstown at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 7.3 runs per game this season.
