Baseball Game Preview: Goodland Cowboys vs. Holcomb Longhorns

The Goodland Cowboys will challenge the Holcomb Longhorns at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Goodland sitting on four straight wins and Holcomb on six.

On Tuesday, Goodland earned a 6-2 victory over Ulysses.

Kaleb Williams made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Goodland is 3-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 3-5 otherwise. Williams was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Williams wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Braylon Mull, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That stolen base marked the first that Mull has snagged this season. Deegen Knox was another, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI.

Meanwhile, Holcomb made easy work of Spearville on Monday and carried off a 12-2 win. The Longhorns might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 contests by six runs or more this season.

Holcomb's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-3. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Goodland, the victory got them back to even at 6-6.
