Baseball Recap: South Mecklenburg Wins Going Away Against Berry

South Mecklenburg had lost three games straight , but after bumping their record up to 15-10 on Monday that streak is in the rearview. They put the hurt on the Berry Cardinals with a sharp 17-1 win. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Sabres' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Christian Gegg looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.

At the plate, Pete Halstead was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with five RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Devitt, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

South Mecklenburg was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .471. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

As for Berry, their loss dropped their record down to 10-13. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, they couldn't push the score so high this time.

On Berry's side, they saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tyler Davis, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases.

Coming up, South Mecklenburg will take on Ardrey Kell at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Sabres 4, the Knights 3.9) so any runs scored will be well earned. Berry does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
