Baseball Recap: South Newton Takes a Loss

South Newton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat dating back to last season. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 10-8 heartbreaker at the hands of the North White Vikings. The Rebels were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Vikings apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Thomas Applegate was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Applegate was even better at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Applegate is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least two every time he's taken the field this season.

Applegate wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Aidan Mattox, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Duke Duncan was another, scoring a run and stealing four bases.

South Newton's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: North White beat the Rebels by a score of 17-3 later that day.
