Baseball Recap: Poynette Comes Up Short

If Poynette was feeling good fresh off their 8-1 takedown of Adams-Friendship on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Pumas fell just short of the Waterloo Pirates by a score of 2-1 on Monday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Pumas of the 3-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2025.

Poynette saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jack Gossfeld, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

Poynette has also been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-6-1 record this season. As for Waterloo, their record is now 4-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Poynette will challenge Lodi at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Waterloo, they will take on Wisconsin Heights at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Vanguards will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Pirates surely won't give up without a fight.
