Softball Recap: Halifax Academy Takes a Loss

If Halifax Academy was riding high fresh off their 18-3 takedown of Pungo Christian Academy last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Halifax Academy fell just short of the Southampton Academy Raiders by a score of 3-2 on Monday.

Payton Odom spent all 11 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on 11 hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Halifax Academy saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Teagan Hamill, who scored a run while going 2-for-6.

Halifax Academy has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-8-1 record this season. The win made it two in a row for Southampton Academy and bumps their season record up to 4-4-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Halifax Academy will challenge Rocky Mount Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Southampton Academy, they will take on Amelia Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
