Football Game Preview: Gonzaga Eagles vs. Our Lady of Good Counsel Falcons

Gonzaga is 2-8 against Our Lady of Good Counsel since October of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Eagles will challenge the Falcons at 2:00 p.m. Gonzaga will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each matchup than the last.

Gonzaga is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of District of Columbia's top teams: St. John's, who was ranked first at the time (Gonzaga was ranked second). The Eagles came out on top in a nail-biter against the Cadets on Saturday, sneaking past 24-21. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Eagles have posted since November 9, 2024.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Our Lady of Good Counsel). They strolled past Bishop McNamara with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 34-20. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Falcons considering their seven-point performance the game before.

Our Lady of Good Counsel's win came from a few key players Gonzaga will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Dj Hammond, who rushed for 96 yards and a pair of scores. What's more, he posted two rushing touchdowns, the most he's had since back in September. Another player making a difference was Paul Alston, who rushed for 95 yards and one touchdown.

Our Lady of Good Counsel's win bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Gonzaga, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 6-4.

Gonzaga didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Our Lady of Good Counsel in their previous matchup back in October, but they still walked away with a 13-7 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
