Basketball Game Preview: Wheatland Pirates vs. Gridley Bulldogs

Wheatland is 2-8 against Gridley since January of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Wheatland Pirates will square off against the Gridley Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. Wheatland has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

Wheatland picked up another tournament win on Saturday. They walked away with a 50-42 victory over Rio Linda.

Dominic Shafer was the offensive standout of the matchup as he went 5 of 10 on his way to 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Hughston Rodney, who posted five points and nine rebounds.

Meanwhile, Gridley came tearing into Monday's contest with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.4 points) and they left with even more momentum. They strolled past the Thunderbirds with points to spare, taking the game 46-32.

The win got Wheatland back to even at 6-6. As for Gridley, their victory bumped their record up to 11-3.

Wheatland and Gridley were neck-and-neck in their previous matchup back in February of 2022, but Wheatland came up empty-handed after a 32-31 loss. Can Wheatland avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
