Lake Fenton is on a 12-game streak of home wins, while Goodrich is on an 18-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Blue Devils will welcome the Martians at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Lake Fenton will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.
On Monday, Lake Fenton got the win against Brandon by a conclusive 16-1. The result was nothing new for the Blue Devils, who have now won ten matches by eight runs or more so far this season.
Mia Merrell (2027) was a standout: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted over her last 12 contests. Laureena Baehl (2027) was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one double.
Lake Fenton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .590. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Goodrich ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Owosso 4-3. The win continues a trend for the Martians in their matchups with the Trojans: they've now won eight in a row.
Samantha Hiller spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Goodrich's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Sophie Swanson, who went 1-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Another was Julia Keller, who went 2-for-3 with one run.
Lake Fenton's win bumped their record up to 17-3. As for Goodrich, their victory bumped their record up to 15-5.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Lake Fenton hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.2 home runs per game. However, it's not like Goodrich struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Lake Fenton came out on top in a nail-biter against Goodrich in their previous matchup last Monday, sneaking past 8-7. Do the Blue Devils have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Martians turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
