The La Porte Slicers will face off against the South Central Satellites at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. La Porte is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.
La Porte will face South Central after dropping another heartbreaker against Crown Point on Wednesday, which marked the second time in a row the team's come within 2.1 of beating them. The Slicers lost 12-2 to the Bulldogs.
La Porte saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Shayla Sorg, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask South Central). They blew past Portage 16-1 on Monday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Satellites with their most commanding win of the season.
Valerie Horne was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in May of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, South Central got a big performance out of Taylor Cleek, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most runs Cleek has posted since back in April of 2024. Marlee Cavinder was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
South Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Portage only posted a batting average of .143.
South Central is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-5-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for La Porte, they dropped their record down to 12-15 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.
Both La Porte and South Central just can't seem to miss. The Slicers have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.7 hits per game. However, it's not like South Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.2 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
La Porte took their win against South Central in their previous matchup back in May of 2018 by a conclusive 7-0 score. Will the Slicers repeat their success, or do the Satellites have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
