Softball Game Preview: Worthington Trojans vs. St. Peter Saints

Worthington hasn't had much luck against St. Peter recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Trojans will be playing at home against the Saints at 5:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

If Worthington beats St. Peter with 12 runs on Thursday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. The Trojans walked away with a 12-8 win over Marshall on Tuesday.

St. Peter not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since May 2, 2024. They put the hurt on Tri-City United [Montgomery-Lonsdale/Le Center] with a sharp 12-4 victory.

Auden Anderson and Devyn Welp made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Anderson kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Welp struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. At the plate, Anderson scored a run while going 2-for-3, while Welp scored a run while going 3-for-4.

In other batting news, St. Peter got a massive performance out of Allie Dent, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Nora Whipps was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.

Worthington might still be hurting after the 14-2 loss they got from St. Peter in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Trojans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
