Softball Game Preview: Martin Clippers vs. Plainwell Trojans

The Martin Clippers will head out on the road to take on the Plainwell Trojans at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Martin is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.

Gobles hit Martin with a eight-run third inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Clippers lost 12-2 to the Tigers.

16 must be Plainwell's lucky number: they beat Godwin Heights with that score not once but twice on Thursday. The Trojans were the clear victors by a 16-0 margin over the Wolverines. The match marked the Trojans' most dominant win of the season.

Sophia Barth made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, she posted three strikeouts, the most she's had over her last four games. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Samantha McDaniel, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Madison Seibert was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Plainwell always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .769. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory made it two in a row for Plainwell and bumps their season record up to 6-20. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 1 runs in those games. As for Martin, their loss dropped their record down to 4-6.
