Softball Recap: Breese Central Drops Season-High Score on Roxana

Breese Central had lost three games on the road, but after bumping their record up to 4-14 on Tuesday that streak is in the rearview. They blew past the Roxana Shells 25-7. The Cougars' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

The team relied heavily on Kate Johnson, who fired off three home runs and 11 RBI while going 4-for-4. Those three home runs gave her a new career-high. Taylor Trame was another key player, firing off two home runs and five RBI while going 3-for-4.

Breese Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .609. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

As for Roxana, they dropped their record down to 0-12 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight at home. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss they have suffered against Breese Central since April 26, 2022.

On Roxana's side, Lilli Ray was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Ray is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as she's now launched at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Josie Brannon, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs.

Looking ahead, Breese Central will challenge Mater Dei at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Roxana will be paying especially close attention to the Cougars' matchup: after the Cougars face off against the Knights, they'll take on Roxana again at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
