Basketball Recap: Jahyra Mastry's Big Game Can't Quite Lead West Brunswick over New Hanover

West Brunswick was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. The match between them and the New Hanover Wildcats didn't end well, with the West Brunswick Trojans falling 60-45. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, with their most recent defeat being a 57-27 loss last Tuesday.

Several Trojans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jahyra Mastry, who posted 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklyn Coble, who had eight points along with seven assists and four steals.

Even though they lost, West Brunswick was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2024.

It was another big night for Brianna Stanley, who went 6-for-15 to rack up 18 points and five steals for New Hanover. Another player making a difference was Jayla Hayes, who scored nine points and five steals.

West Brunswick's defeat dropped their record down to 9-16. As for New Hanover, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 15 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 18-7 record this season.

West Brunswick does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for New Hanover, they will take on Topsail at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. New Hanover is on a three-game streak of home wins, Topsail a four-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
