Softball Preview: East Bay Indians vs. Durant Cougars
East Bay is 0-10 against Durant since March of 2019 but things could change on Tuesday. The Indians will head out to square off against the Cougars at 7:00 p.m. East Bay is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.
East Bay came into this matchup off a tough 11-run defeat on Tuesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Riverview by a score of 8-6 on Thursday. The Indians have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Jensen Nelson was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over 5.2 innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-low in walks (zero). She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Nelson wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kamiira Austin, who went 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Durant took on Wharton on Thursday. The Cougars never let the Wildcats get on the board and left with a 4-0 win.
Not much got past Betty Oderio, who gave up just four hits and racked up eight Ks to keep Wharton off the board. Oderio has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.
East Bay's loss dropped their record down to 7-10. As for Durant, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.
