Softball Recap: Mohawk Triumphs

Mohawk proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by 12) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past the Wynford Royals 5-3. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 4-0 on April 2nd.

Aubrey Gottfried spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Kaci Steyer was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Katie Woodland, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.

Mohawk's record now sits at 11-2. As for Wynford, they moved to 5-7 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Mohawk has already played their next game, a 10-0 win against Van Buren on the 24th. As for Wynford, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 17-3 loss against Seneca East on the 27th.
