The Monrovia Bulldogs are taking a road trip to take on the Danville Warriors at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Monrovia is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
Monrovia made up a huge gap compared to their last game against South Putnam, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Bulldogs fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 8-6 on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Bulldogs have suffered against the Eagles since April 17, 2017.
Camryn Wolfe was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Emma Holtsclaw also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Danville entered their tilt with Frankfort on Saturday with six consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with seven. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Hot Dogs a 16-0 shutout. The contest marked the Warriors' most dominant win of the season so far.
Piper Whitson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Whitson was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Those two runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Addison Davis was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, three RBI, and one triple. She continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Alivea Abel, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
Danville hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Danville pushed their record up to 7-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Monrovia, they now have a losing record of 4-5.
Monrovia might still be hurting after the 14-2 loss they got from Danville when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Bulldogs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
