Basketball Game Preview: New Braunfels Unicorns vs. Smithson Valley Rangers

The New Braunfels Unicorns will head out to challenge the Smithson Valley Rangers at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Smithson Valley took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on New Braunfels, who comes in off a win.

New Braunfels took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 48-29 victory over Veterans Memorial. Given the Unicorns' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 239th, while the Patriots are ranked 1004th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

It was another big night for Alyana Mcgarity, who almost dropped a double-double on 23 points and nine boards. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in blocks (six). Another player making a difference was Ryler Wilson, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 rebounds.

Meanwhile, Smithson Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They took a hard 50-31 fall against Pieper.

Smithson Valley's loss dropped their record down to 7-14. As for New Braunfels, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 13-10.

New Braunfels came up short against Smithson Valley when the teams last played back in December of 2023, falling 59-54. Can New Braunfels avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
