Softball Preview: Woodmore Wildcats vs. Oak Harbor Rockets
The Woodmore Wildcats will head out on the road to take on the Oak Harbor Rockets at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
While Wildcats fans will have to keep waiting for their squad to come home, they shouldn't be too worried about the road trip considering the result of Friday's season opener. They blew past Old Fort 11-1 on Friday.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Oak Harbor). They were the clear victors by a 20-2 margin over Fostoria on Monday. The win was familiar territory for the Rockets, who have now won six contests in a row.
Morgan Lalonde made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Lalonde was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Oak Harbor got a massive performance out of Hannah Schimmoeller, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Karder Haas was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-5.
Oak Harbor was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .323 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.
Woodmore suffered a grim 15-2 defeat to Oak Harbor in their previous meeting back in April of 2022. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
