Basketball Recap: Hunter Wolverines vs. Kearns Cougars
The Hunter Wolverines's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They took a 64-57 hit to the loss column at the hands of Kearns. Hunter has struggled against the Cougars recently, as their matchup on Friday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
When it comes to explaining why Hunter lost, one person who can't be blamed is Grace Gallagher. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 25 points and 20 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gallagher has scored all season. Kalysa Ng was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with seven steals and six assists.
Even though they lost, Hunter smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kearns only pulled down ten offensive rebounds.
Kearns' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kylee Glade led the charge by scoring 19 points along with eight rebounds. Another player making a difference was Crystal Afemata - marasco, who scored 18 points.
Hunter's loss dropped their record down to 8-12. As for Kearns, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-9 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hunter will take on the Jaguars at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. West Jordan knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past eight matches -- so hopefully the Wolverines like a good challenge. As for Kearns, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Warriors at 7:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive.
