Recap: Piedra Vista Panthers vs. Gallup Bengals
On Friday, the Piedra Vista Panthers faced the Gallup Bengals in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Piedra Vista ended up on the wrong side of a rough 60-39 walloping at the hands of Gallup. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Piedra Vista in their matchups with Gallup: they've now lost four in a row.
Several Panthers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Christian Smith, who scored 12 points along with 7 rebounds. Smith scored a full 30.8% of Piedra Vista's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Tyra Holyan, who scored 11 points.
Piedra Vista's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Gallup, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 3-0.
Piedra Vista's road trip will continue as they head out to face Tohatchi at 6:00 p.m. on December 2nd. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in New Mexico (Tohatchi is ranked 17th, while Piedra Vista is ranked 14th). Gallup won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Window Rock at 7:30 p.m. on December 2nd. Window Rock will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
