Softball Recap: Penn Has No Trouble Against Edwardsburg

Penn barely beat Edwardsburg the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Kingsmen blew past the Eddies 9-3 on Friday. Considering the Kingsmen have won 11 contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Margaret Bell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Ava Zachary was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. Peyton Dwigans was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, one triple, and one double.

Penn's win bumped their record up to 17-4. As for Edwardsburg, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 14-9 record.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Penn will welcome South Bend Saint Joseph at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Kingsmen's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Huskies have averaged an impressive 6.7 runs per game this season. As for Edwardsburg, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Kalamazoo Central at 4:30 p.m. on the 28th.
