Softball Recap: J.R. Tucker Sets Scoring Season-High Against Varina

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask J.R. Tucker). They never let the Varina Blue Devils get on the board and left with a 20-0 victory on Wednesday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Tigers needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.

Kendall Shockley and Emily Bryant made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Shockley tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Bryant tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Shockley has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Shockley went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base, while Bryant got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those RBI were Shockley's first of the season.

In other batting news, Miyah Williams was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those runs marked the first that she has scored this season. Another player making a difference was Corinne Lewis, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

J.R. Tucker always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .590. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

J.R. Tucker's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-8. As for Varina, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. J.R. Tucker will square off against Hermitage at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Varina, they will challenge Hanover at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
