Softball Recap: Northeast Comes Up Short

Northeast extended their losing streak to six on Tuesday, dropping them down to 1-6. They came up short against the Houston County Fighting Irish, falling 19-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Fighting Irish this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-0 on March 4th.

As for Houston County, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 5-4. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Houston County's part, Jakelyn Boone and Brilee Anderson made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Boone tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Anderson pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. At bat, Boone went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Anderson got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That triple was Boone's first of the season.

In other batting news, Hailey Nichols was a standout: she went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Madelynn Brooks, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and two runs.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Northeast will venture away from home to face off against Kirkwood at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. This will be the Eagles' first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for Houston County, they will challenge McKenzie at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
