Baseball Recap: Wichita Defenders HomeSchool Comes Up Short

Wichita Defenders HomeSchool had lost four straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 1-6 to make it five. They came up short against the Chaparral Roadrunners, falling 14-2. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Defenders of the 14-4 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2024.

As for Chaparral, their record now sits at 6-7-1. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their two-run performance the contest before.

For Chaparral's part, Conner Hostetler made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). Hostetler also tossed a walk, which is notable because Chaparral is 3-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 3-6-1 otherwise. Hostetler was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Chaparral got a massive performance out of Ty Hadsall, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Hadsall is becoming a predictor of the Roadrunners' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-7-1 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Daxton Hostetler, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Chaparral beat Wichita Defenders HomeSchool by a score of 15-4 later that day.
