Baseball Game Preview: Dothan Wolves vs. Smiths Station Panthers

Dothan is 0-9 against Smiths Station since February of 2020 but things could change on Friday. The Wolves will challenge the Panthers at 5:30 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Dothan proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by 14) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out Orange Beach 4-3. The Wolves' victory was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.

Edmund Cody looked comfortable as he struck out nine batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Tripp Benton, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2025. Will Varner was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, Smiths Station posted their closest win since March 22, 2025 on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Beauregard 4-3.

Smiths Station's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Dothan, their victory bumped their record up to 3-0.

Dothan came up short against Smiths Station when the teams last played back in March of 2025, falling 10-6. Can the Wolves avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
