Baseball Recap: Beachwood Drops Highest Score of Season Against Berkshire

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Beachwood). They walked away with an 11-7 win over the Berkshire Badgers on Thursday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Bison considering their two-run performance the game before.

Jaycob Zabell and Lucius Venditti made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Zabell struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Venditti tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. Those six strikeouts gave Zabell a new career-high. At bat, Zabell got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI, while Venditti went 1-for-3 with two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ethan Malek, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, three doubles, and one run. Those three doubles gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavi Lappen, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs and one RBI.

Beachwood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .553. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory made it two in a row for Beachwood and bumps their season record up to 5-12. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 7 runs in those games. As for Berkshire, with the loss, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 4-10.

Beachwood has already played their next match, a 14-7 defeat against Kenston on the 9th. As for Berkshire, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 7-3 loss against West Geauga on the 9th.
