Baseball Recap: Buckhorn Wins Going Away Against Jenkins

Buckhorn made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Jenkins, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Buckhorn put the hurt on Jenkins with a sharp 15-5 victory on Monday. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by nine runs or more this season.

Parker Mayhew made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Mayhew was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season.

In other batting news, Brayden Campbell was a standout: he scored two runs and stole five bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Austin Riley, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.

Buckhorn always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .585. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jenkins only posted an OBP of .296.

Buckhorn now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Jenkins, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.

Looking ahead, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Buckhorn Wildcats challenge Jackson City Tigers at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Jackson City has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.75 runs per game on average), something Buckhorn will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Jenkins, they are taking a road trip to take on Martin County at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
