Softball Recap: Central Magnet Takes a Loss

After flying high against Shelbyville Central last Friday, Central Magnet came back down to earth. Central Magnet came up short against the Tullahoma Wildcats on Tuesday, falling 13-3. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Central Magnet of the 11-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Paige Simmons made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Megan Weber was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Even though they lost, Central Magnet was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .381. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .314 or higher in three consecutive matchups.

Central Magnet has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season. The victory (which was Tullahoma's seventh in a row) raised their record to 8-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Central Magnet will square off against LaVergne at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. We've got a battle between Wildcats coming up. Tullahoma's pitchers better be ready for this one: Lawrence County has averaged an impressive 7.9 runs per game this season.
