Baseball Recap: Brighton Takes a Loss

The matchup between Brighton and Prairie View on Thursday hardly resembled the 4-0 effort from their previous meeting. The Bulldogs fell just short of the Thunderhawks by a score of 10-9. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Bulldogs of the 4-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Austin Sickler was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the first time he hasn't allowed a single hit since back in May of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double.

In other batting news, Blake George was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run and three RBI.

Brighton's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 7-5. As for Prairie View, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 11-3.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Brighton is set to square off against their familiar foe Westminster at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, Prairie View will take on rival Mountain Range at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in the Thunderhawks' favor as the team sits on five straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while the Mustangs have been banged up by five consecutive losses on the road.
