Baseball Recap: Spruce Creek Now 18-1 over Last 19 Games

It's playoff time, and Spruce Creek had no trouble coming through when it counted. They put the hurt on the DeLand Bulldogs with a sharp 9-2 win on Thursday. The Hawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 15 contests by seven runs or more this season.

Garrett Grant spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits and racked up ten Ks. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Lucas Badalato was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with five RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Devon Crown, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Spruce Creek hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in eight consecutive games.

Spruce Creek is on a roll lately: they've won 18 of their last 19 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 25-2 record this season. As for DeLand, the loss snapped their winning streak at five games and leaves them with a 13-14 record.

As of now, neither Spruce Creek nor the Bulldogs have any future games scheduled.
