Softball Game Preview: Mount Mercy Academy Magic vs. Nichols Vikings

Mount Mercy Academy is 2-8 against Nichols since April of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Magic will take on the Vikings at 4:30 p.m.

Mount Mercy Academy came into their game on Monday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against St. Mary's, falling 16-6. The contest marked the Magic's lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Meanwhile, Nichols hadn't done well against Nardin Academy recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Vikings had just enough and edged out the Gators 6-4.

Reyes Rodriguez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on ten hits.

At the plate, Annabelle Berke was excellent, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one triple and one run. That triple was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Brynn Bacak, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

Nichols' victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Mount Mercy Academy, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 4-1.

Mount Mercy Academy couldn't quite finish off Nichols when the teams last played back in May of 2024 and fell 3-1. Can the Magic avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
