Football Game Preview: Stone Memorial Panthers vs. Cumberland County Jets

The Stone Memorial Panthers will face off against the Cumberland County Jets at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Stone Memorial has four straight victories, Cumberland County has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Stone Memorial is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Tennessee's top teams: Van Buren County, who was ranked eighth at the time (Stone Memorial was ranked first). The Panthers simply couldn't be stopped on Tuesday as they easily beat the Eagles 39-6. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 contests by 21 points or more this season.

Stone Memorial relied on the efforts of Lauren Clark, who rushed for 108 yards and one score on only seven carries, and Lily Hinch, who gained 89 total yards and three touchdowns. Clark also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, making two total tackles and defending one pass in addition to snagging two interceptions both of which were returned for touchdowns.

Stone Memorial didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Clark. She got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Meanwhile, Cumberland County scored the most points they've had this season on Tuesday, but it wasn't enough. They lost 26-6 to Warren County.

Stone Memorial's win bumped their record up to 13-1. As for Cumberland County, their loss dropped their record down to 0-4.

Everything came up roses for Stone Memorial against Cumberland County when the teams last played on April 3rd, as the squad secured a 65-0 victory. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Jets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
