Football Recap: Seffner Christian Comes Up Short Despite Isaiah Balthazar's Big Defensive Game

Seffner Christian dropped down to 6-2 on Friday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell 19-7 to the Out-of-Door Academy Thunder. The Crusaders were red-hot offensively heading into the matchup (they scored no less than 31 points in the three contests prior), but the Thunder's defense proved too tough.

When it comes to explaining why Seffner Christian lost, don't look at Kenyarda Davis. Despite the final result, he rushed for 94 yards and one TD. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 85 yards.

Seffner Christian didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Isaiah Balthazar. Gavin Miller was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making 14 total tackles (2.0 for loss).

As for Out-of-Door Academy, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-1. The victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 8.3 points on average over those games.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Out-of-Door Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Allen Clark, who rushed for 125 yards and one score. With that strong performance, Clark is now averaging an impressive 100.5 rushing yards per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Michael Garzia, who rushed for 89 yards on only seven carries.

Coming up, Seffner Christian will face off against The Master's Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Crusaders will be up against the Eagles' rather soft defense (which has allowed 27.75 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Out-of-Door Academy, they will challenge St. Petersburg Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Thunder will need to watch out since the Barons have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.
