Baseball Recap: Spring Mountain Comes Up Short

Spring Mountain extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 6-10 in the process. They came up short against the Indian Springs Thunderbirds, falling 20-3. If the Eagles were looking for revenge after losing 15-1 to the Thunderbirds when the teams met back in March of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Indian Springs, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games.

For Indian Springs' part, Carlos Aviles made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. Those eight strikeouts gave Aviles a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with three stolen bases and two runs.

In other batting news, Indian Springs got a massive performance out of Jacob Gourley, who fired off two home runs, four runs, and five RBI while going 3-for-4. Gourley is also on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Adam Groeblinghoff, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI.

While Spring Mountain had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
