Volleyball Recap: Rocky Mount Gryphons vs. J.F. Webb Warriors
Rocky Mount was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 17th straight loss dating back to last season. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the J.F. Webb Warriors. While the Gryphons didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Warriors 25-17 in the first set.
Rocky Mount actually scored more points across those five sets (112-109), but sadly they still had to settle for second. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 17-25, 27-25, 22-25, 28-26, 15-11.
Several Gryphons players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Trinity Taylor, who had six blocks and two aces. The team also got some help courtesy of Courtney Perkins, who had 16 blocks and seven kills.
Rocky Mount's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for J.F. Webb, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.
The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Rocky Mount beat the Warriors by a score of 3-0 on Monday.
