Volleyball Recap: Mayde Creek Comes Up Short

Mayde Creek came into their game on Tuesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 3-0 to the Tompkins Falcons. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Falcons this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-0 back in September.

Mayde Creek took the loss but they managed to make steady progress, increasing their score in every set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-11, 25-16, 25-19.

Isabella Gomez paced Mayde Creek's offense, picking up 11 kills. Gomez got some help from Autumn Wimberely and her 16 assists. Gomez was also solid from the service line: she led the team with four aces.

Lainey Monroe was a one-woman wrecking crew For Tompkins. as she had 15 digs and three aces. That's the most aces Monroe has posted since back in August. Chloe Cummings also deserves some recognition as she had her first block of the season.

Mayde Creek's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 14-21. As for Tompkins, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 18 of their last 20 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 29-5 record this season.

Coincidentally, Mayde Creek and Tompkins will both be playing Morton Ranch the next time they take the court. The Falcons will head out to face the Mavericks at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, while the Rams will host them at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
