The Sedgwick County Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the Perkins County Plainsmen at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.

The Cougars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matches by 25 points or more this season.

Sedgwick County's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Lainee Nein, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds, and Abigail Dille, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine boards. Nein is also crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Keyana Ehnes was another key player, putting up five points.
Meanwhile, Perkins County's game on Tuesday was all tied up 11-11 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They were the clear victor by a 45-25 margin over Holyoke. Winning may never get old, but the Plainsmen sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Perkins County's win came from a few key players Sedgwick County will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Madison Potts, who posted 14 points and five steals. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 2.1 steals per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Ella Homan, who went 5 for 9 on her way to 14 points along with five boards and three steals.
Perkins County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in four consecutive games.
Sedgwick County's win was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-3. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.6 points per game. As for Perkins County, their record is now 7-9.
Keep an eye on the arc in Thursday's contest: Sedgwick County has been dynamite from deep this season, having made 37.1% of their threes per game. It's a different story for Perkins County, though, as they've only made 22.9% of their three-pointers this season. Given Sedgwick County's sizable advantage in that area, Perkins County will need to find a way to close that gap.
Sedgwick County was able to grind out a solid victory over Perkins County when the teams last played back in January of 2024, winning 62-50. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Perkins County's Kailee Potts, who went 12 of 27 en route to 26 points and seven rebounds.
