Football Recap: Santiago Comes Up Short

Santiago managed to slip by Costa Mesa the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Cavaliers had to suffer through a 42-14 loss at the hands of the Mustangs. The Cavaliers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-0.

Leading Costa Mesa to victory were Gavin Garza and Andrew Waiss. Garza rushed for 226 yards and four scores while picking up 10.3 yards per carry, while Waiss rushed for 146 yards and a pair of TDs. That's the most rushing yards Garza has posted since back in October of 2024.

Santiago is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5. As for Costa Mesa, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 5-1.

Looking ahead, Santiago will head out to take on La Quinta at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Aztecs' defense has only allowed 7.8 points per game this season, so the Cavaliers' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Costa Mesa, they will look to defend their home field on the 10th against Anaheim at 7:00 p.m.
