Softball Game Preview: Person Rockets vs. Cedar Ridge Fighting Red Wolves

The Person Rockets will face off against the Cedar Ridge Fighting Red Wolves at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Person has struggled recently with four defeats in a row, while Cedar Ridge will arrive with five straight victories.

Last Wednesday, Person came up short against Oxford Prep and fell 8-3.

Person saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Macey Bowes, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI. Camryn Clarke was another, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Cedar Ridge got the win against Falls Lake on Thursday by a conclusive 9-3. Considering the Fighting Red Wolves have won eight matches by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Mia Best made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, firing off two home runs, four RBI, and one stolen base while going 2-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Kimber Shambley was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run. Another player making a difference was Madeline Galindo-Woodring, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Cedar Ridge lost a few balls and finished the game with four home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Cedar Ridge's win bumped their record up to 10-5. As for Person, their loss dropped their record down to 6-10.

Person suffered a grim 15-2 defeat to Cedar Ridge when the teams last played back in March. Can the Rockets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
