The home team had won the previous four meetings between Start and Anthony Wayne, and Start kept the tradition alive. The Spartans narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Generals 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Spartans have posted since April 22, 2025.

The match was a true back-and-forth as no team won consecutive sets, but in the end it was Start who won the one that mattered. The match finished with set scores of 25-23, 19-25, 25-21, 24-26, 15-12.

Kaden Baker paced Start's offense, picking up 23 kills. Baker got some help from Jaden Brunt and his 31 assists. Baker was also solid from the service line: he led the team with six aces.

The victory got Start back to even at 6-6. As for Anthony Wayne, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matches. Start will venture away from home to take on Adrian at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Anthony Wayne, they will face off against Perrysburg at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday. The Yellow Jackets will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Generals surely won't give up without a fight.
