Basketball Recap: South Triumphs

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Pine Bluffs, South was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They snuck past the Southeast Cyclones with a 54-48 victory. This was payback for the Bison, who suffered a 39-37 loss the last time these two teams met.

Tremel Ray produced another solid performance going 9-for-17 en route to 23 points in addition to five rebounds and five steals. Josiah Fernandez was another key player, putting up 13 points and six boards.

South smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in January.

When it comes to explaining why Southeast lost, don't look at TJ Moats. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Beaux Shimic, who shot 45% from the field on his way to 13 points and five boards.

South's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Southeast, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

South and Prospect Ridge Academy will compete for holiday cheer at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Bison's defense better be ready for this one: the Miners have averaged an impressive 69 points per game this season. As for Southeast, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 72-43 defeat against Burns on the 13th.
