Baseball Game Preview: Mount Miguel Matadors vs. Crawford Colts

Mount Miguel has gone a perfect 3-0 against Crawford recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Matadors will look to defend their home field against the Colts at 9:00 a.m. Mount Miguel is coming into the contest on a five-game losing streak.

Mount Miguel fell victim to Steele Canyon and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They came up short against the Cougars, falling 23-0.

Mount Miguel saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Braylon Cardwell, who went 1-for-2 with one double.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Crawford, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They skirted past High Tech SD 10-8. The high-scoring effort was just what the Colts needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.

Jesse Altamirano Verdin made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off five hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Crawford is 5-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 5-10 otherwise. Altamirano Verdin was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Abbel Martinez was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one double, and one RBI. Abraham Carillo-Ceron was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

Crawford's victory bumped their record up to 10-11. As for Mount Miguel, their loss dropped their record down to 7-13.

Everything went Mount Miguel's way against Crawford when the teams last played back in March of 2024, as Mount Miguel made off with a 15-1 win. Will the Matadors repeat their success, or do the Colts have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
