Baseball Game Preview: Union Pines Vikings vs. Lee County Yellow Jackets

Union Pines is 2-8 against Lee County since May of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Union Pines Vikings will host the Lee County Yellow Jackets at 7:00 p.m.

Union Pines is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 19 runs on Wednesday, they were much more limited against Gray's Creek on Friday. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bears.

David Park made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Brodie Lyczkowski was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases.

Meanwhile, Lee County put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 9-8 W against Alexander Central. That's two games straight that the Yellow Jackets have won by just one run.

Gavin Swann made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Swann was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in RBI.

In other batting news, Will Rannells was excellent, scoring three runs while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (three). Another player making a difference was Destry Smith, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.

Lee County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .484. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .326 or higher in four consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Lee County's win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-0. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.4 runs across that stretch. As for Union Pines, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.
