Basketball Recap: Butler Picks Up Ninth Consecutive Victory

Butler came tearing into Friday's game with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 29.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They breezed by the East Mecklenburg Eagles to the tune of 63-33. The Bulldogs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 15 contests by 22 points or more this season.

Butler's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Hannah Moss led the charge by going 9 of 20 on her way to 23 points and six boards. Moss' evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Brooklyn Saunders was another key player, going 5 for 12 en route to 15 points along with six assists and four steals.

Butler was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as East Mecklenburg only racked up four assists.

Despite the loss, East Mecklenburg saw an underclassman step up: freshman Samariah Freeman posted seven points and six rebounds. Freeman is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played.

Butler pushed their record up to 18-1 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.4 points per game. As for East Mecklenburg, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-15.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Butler will welcome Rocky River at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Butler is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 64.9 points per game this season. East Mecklenburg has already played their next match (against Independence), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
