Baseball Game Preview: Emmett Huskies vs. Caldwell Cougars

The Emmett Huskies will head out on the road to take on the Caldwell Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Emmett will be strutting in after a win while Caldwell will be coming in after a defeat.

Emmett is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 16-7 margin over Nampa on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Huskies in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won five in a row.

Logan Curtis tossed a big game, tossing six innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits.

On the hitting side, Casey Coburn was a standout: he scored three runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (two). Ryder Scheibe also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.

Emmett kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Nampa only managed seven hits.

Meanwhile, Caldwell started off well but failed to capitalize on an early lead against Payette. They took a 14-10 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pirates on Saturday. Even if the Cougars couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

Owen Moss made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Eric Kammerman was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Caldwell's loss dropped their record down to 1-10. As for Emmett, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-10.

Emmett couldn't quite finish off Caldwell when the teams last played back in April of 2024 and fell 3-1. Can the Huskies avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
