Baseball Game Preview: Doherty Memorial Highlanders vs. Advanced Math & Science Academy Eagles

The Doherty Memorial Highlanders will face off against the Advanced Math & Science Academy Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Doherty Memorial is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.

On Tuesday, Doherty Memorial didn't have quite enough to beat South and fell 8-7. The Highlanders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Doherty Memorial saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aiden O'Connor, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base. That stolen base was O'Connor's first of the season.

Advanced Math & Science Academy came out on top against Littleton on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run sixth inning. The Eagles never let the Tigers get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. Considering the Eagles have won three games by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Not much got past Cole Scully, who gave up just a hit to keep Littleton off the board. Scully has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Trevor Petty was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Drew Laidley, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

The victory made it two in a row for Advanced Math & Science Academy and bumps their season record up to 8-2. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Doherty Memorial, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-4.

Doherty Memorial beat Advanced Math & Science Academy 7-4 in their previous matchup back in May of 2021. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Highlanders since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
