Baseball Recap: Rochester Comes Up Short

Rochester and Eastern squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Rochester had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Comets by a score of 6-5. The Zebras' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Carson Paulik was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he tossed six innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off seven hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Rochester is 4-1 when Paulik posts two or more runs, but 9-15 otherwise.

Paulik wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Zakk Parks, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base.

Rochester's loss dropped their record down to 13-16. As for Eastern, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 20-11 record.

Rochester does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Eastern, they will challenge Wabash at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
