Basketball Recap: Southern Wells Comes Up Short

Southern Wells dropped down to 11-6 on Friday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They had to suffer through a 77-28 loss at the hands of the Jay County Patriots. The contest marked the Raiders' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Despite the loss, Southern Wells saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kaylee Davis shot 46% from the field en route to 17 points and five boards. Davis is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last six games she's played.

As for Jay County, their win was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-5. The home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.8 points over those games.

Jay County was led to victory by Karsyn Schwieterman and Hallie Schwieterman. Karsyn went 10-for-15 to rack up 24 points in addition to seven steals and six assists, while Hallie shot 64% from the field on her way to 22 points and eight steals. Those seven steals gave Karsyn a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Liz Brunswick, who went 5-for-8 en route to 10 points.

Southern Wells has already played their next matchup, a 65-19 win against Wes-Del on the 20th. As for Jay County, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 65-54 defeat against Bluffton on the 17th.
