There wasn't a lot of overall movement in the power rankings this week, but with 16 teams changing position, that doesn't mean the week lacked for thrills. Among the action were the efforts of Durango's sophomore Jordan Woolverton, an offensive menace who scored six total TDs.
Can't Touch This
Durango brought the heat last game after its low-scoring effort (ten points) in the match before. It picked up a decisive 'W' against Pueblo County, finishing up at 54 - 7. Durango found its leader in an underclassman: Jordan Woolverton rushed for 112 yards and threw for five touchdowns, which was enough to make him one of the team's best players. Sophomore Jordan Woolverton was a key playmaker for Durango. One of the top players in the power rankings for the week, he rushed for 112 yards and threw for five touchdowns.
This Week's Big Showdown
One of last week's main attractions was the confrontation between Volcano Vista and Rio Rancho, 5th and 9th in the power rankings, respectively. Volcano Vista narrowly escaped with a win as it sidled past Rio Rancho 38 - 35. One star in particular for Volcano Vista was senior Jake Deatherage, who tossed the ball for 226 yards and two TDs.
Movin on Up
It was onward and upward for Manzano this week as the team hoisted itself up three places in the power rankings -- the largest rise of the week -- after their most recent game. It earned a pretty comfortable 47 - 30 victory over Eldorado. Two standouts for Manzano were senior Xavier Ivey-saud and senior Dakota Powell; the former ran for 125 yards and also punched in two touchdowns while the latter threw for 156 yards and three touchdowns.
Next Week's Big Game
If you are itching to watch a first-rate contest, no game is supposed to fit the bill better than the one between Roswell (8th in the power rankings) and Goddard (4th). Both teams are rolling into the game after last-week wins. Only one team will win this week, so we'll see which team fails to repeat its success.
